As soon as this little number is played you want to break out
and shout " We live in Strasbourg!!" But sadly this is not the time
nor place for such frivolaties.
Work Work Work has an almost soothing effect on you, one which stems from the easy listening department at Radio 2. You know... whatshisface... Terry Wogan on Sunday morning, playing jazz to ease you into the day. That kinda of guff. But as The Rakes are involved in this here page, I shall no longer deliberate over such comparisons.
From debut single Strasbourg, which awakes every sense in you, to this quieter more "lay-in-bed-can't-be-arsed-to-move" number. The song tells of analyzing the events of last night. What happened, what occured, where did you go?... You know you went to the pub, had a few beers, then after that the memories get... a bit hazy. You wake up the morning after wearing the same clothes from the night before, you can smell the alcohol and the cigarette scents, you want to get out and unravel yourself and leave behind the events of last night.
You clamber through your job during the day, only to fall into a pub at night, in The Rakes case it's a wetherspoons, disliking the fact that it's a smoke filled gas chamber, were the bar area smells like puke and the inhabitants are either old farts who sit there dribbling into their pints or rudeboys who would smash your face in the moment you inadvertently made eye contact with them. Charming!
Rating 2.5 pints of Discovery ( nice, acceptable... yet doesn't quite hit the spot)
