THE WHITE STRIPES - MY DOORBELL

It's taken me age to write a review for a latest single release. This was due to the fact that I've been waiting for a single of such magnitude, so earth shatteringly good that the wait has been a long and tiresome one. Though in all honesty this is a total lie, as I've been a lazy git and waited until a band whom I've followed, neigh worshiped, has released another album! Finally here in this review comes forward a song which has immediately and completely engrossed me. The White Stripes are a band who have always caught my imagination in one way or another. From hearing WHITE BLOOD CELLS and more recently ELEPHANT I've been hooked by the Bluesy edge to their music. Soft, slow, hard, fast, direct or indirect it grabs you and sends you reaching for a bottle of Kentucky Bourbon (though I would substitute that for a bottle of London Pride any day of the week)!!!

My Doorbell has that distinctive bluesy rock edge to it, mixed with a catchy beat and the most important and crucial aspect killer lyrics. It has that energetic, lively, get up and dance like your completely pished at a cousin's weddings, making a complete arse of yourself in the process factor ("I've been thinking about my doorbell / When you gonna ring it / When you gonna ring it")! The tinkling of Jack White on the piano is a key factor on this track. A great fan of the Blues, White's additional of the piano to the main body of the song adds lift and thrust, together with a pounding beat, and (presumably) a maraca, holding the song in time, My Doorbell is a timely Stripes classic!

Rating: 4 pints of London Pride!
