Time for another...

...your round, I think!

by Carpet

After having SO much fun last time, and hearing there was still going to be another: my entrepid cohort and I set orf back to darkest Camden (well...Inverness St..'s quite well "neoned") to survey Color, which is underneath Bar Solo, and a few doors down from Mega City Comics.

Anyway. Plug of Camden-vicinity aside: the place itself is very nicely done; if I wasn't with nutters, I'd feel out of place! :-) There's not a lot to get in the way of druken staggering, but that means there'd be nothing to stop you from falling into the big angry psycho...

Also: get there before eight, coz on that Sunday I think Happy HourTM stopped at nine: two selected bottles for £3!

First on: Moral Dilemma

Funny how wherever you go to a great yet at least fairly improvised setup, there's always rather ominous-sounding, yet usually quite enjoyable post-new wave or junior-metal band, who can actually play well, and just don't. Tonight, M.D. do this. But, I quite liked it. So there.
The highlights of the set were at least two tunes I'm sure I recognise, but can't remember the names of... Remember kids: only take drugs if you can fully accept the burgeoning responsibility of memory-loss. Can't remember what that is? Tough sh1t. If anyone does actually know/remember, please put this young hack out of his complacency, and stop helping him create cr@p excuses for not doing a good job. You have been told.

Project Serendipity

A raver?! At a punk gig?!?! How punk! Though possibly to the wrong people...
Despite much of the audience talking throughout most of the beginning of his set; I, yet again, much enjoyed the nearly polished stylings of this no-doubt soon-to-be-famous young man: mixing live is not easy; playing guitar live means I'm already well impressed with his kit, even before he starts playing. And play on (maestro) he does; mixing ditty-like synths à la Plaid and a more upbeat Black Dog, with the beeps of nullsleep, and the dark swirls of Nine Inch Nails (at a quiet moment).
No titles were mentioned, but enough material was played to certainly fill an EP (in my opinion). Please watch.

King Blues

Why aren't there more bands like them?! An acoustic.ska band...with a ukelele!
Lads: you're well cool an that; but stop f**kin about an make us a CD!...
Highlights from tonight: "Chimp in a 3-Piece Suit", "All Fall Down", "Taking Over" and the now-even-more-interesting "World Through Blunkett's Eyes". Was there another one called "Night Bus To Giro"?... Help.
However: it's about time there's such a mellow, yet... poignant sound... True: it is a subject (that they cover) often mentioned as an anti-establishment axiom; but there is also a time for thought as well as action.
Itch: please, please please learn how to play a ukelele with your teeth... The video'll go on the site, I swear!

The Bellagios

What can be said that fits. No, change of tack: I'll describe them to you. Take the beats of N.E.R.D. & Fun Lovin' Criminals (for and not for covers), through a percussionist and a quiet drum-kit; bolster this tune with one [six-string] acoustic with pickups; give the band four separate vocals, all different; and make them cover "I Believe In A Thing (Called Love)" by The Darkness. If you still can't visualise: check out the studio version on their website. You have no idea how many times I've played that... Please listen.
