THE SUBWAYS - YOUNG FOR ETERNITY

The Subways on MySpace

Charlotte and Billy sitting in the tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G! As they little ditty goes, or something very similar. Josh, who, is ever present, just simply looks on. And probably just yawns a lot! Then the serious business of playing gets under and way and the three are transformed into one of the countries hottest new bands. The Subways, who I've seen live at the Shepherds Bush Empire, are an amazingly powerful teenage trio! The debut album is something special.

When I saw them live it was an ear bashing I'll never forget. The set was short and but far from sweet. Loud and very raucous in every sense. Billy Lunn is a very talented individual, who is the brains behind the band. Singer/songerwriter he delivers when it matters time and time again. Songs such as Oh Yeah and Rock N Roll Queen ooze the youthful vibe, the adolscent voice, which is a constant reminder of why this generation will always be at the forefront of the British Rock scene. Charlotte Cooper provides a fair princess image, mixed together with a Rock queen persona, which comes together with exceedingly good result. Josh Lunn sits behind the drums and bashes the crap out of the them. The powerhouse who is there to drive the band forward on a tidal wave of noise.

Oh Yeah! has a very vivacious intro, the songs has alot of spring to it. The bass from Charlotte gives the track real Oomph! " It's your eyes that make me smile/ Oh Yeah! Oh Yeah! " British Rock with a clout! Rock N Roll Queen lyrically is very short but wholly sweet. " You are the sun/you are the only one/My heart is blue/M heart is blue for you" This would be agreeable for Billy to be courting a yound lady, say Charlotte, that would be sensible and straight forward, less hassle and no aggro! Billy also states that the lucky lady (again Ms Cooper) " You are so Rock N Roll!" Another British trait to say how musically opininated one is! What What!!

The album is made up of garage rock bangers, who's sole intension is to prove a multitude of short but sweet songs that have a distinctly British rock edge. At 1am is prime evident of this. British garage rock at it's finest. It gI'ves you that feel of wanting to play air guitar all round the house! Holiday is a fast and riotous number squeezed into a time frame of less than two minutes. From the off it rips apart the subtle calm of the previous track, then hits you with the speed of a ten tonne juggernaut! (this is a warning!) City Pavement takes the less rocky path and swims along nice, catching the odd wave to lift itself skywards.

No Goodbyes and With You see Billy Lunn delve deep inside himself to find answer to many a personal question that needs an answer or two. The Subways prove their genteel, peaceful side. These acoustic number sit neatly along side the heavier rock monsters in this album. She Sun is another genteel, soft, tender track which The Subways fit perfectly into Young For Eternity!  The single YFE talks about Dracula draing the life out of a young person, before they've had a chance to live, really live.

The songs take the album from one extreme of hard rock to the other extreme, soft, genteel, subtle and peaceful. The Subways have created their own unique little niche in the music business and are tapping away at the public's conscience to listen to them and respond in a positive way. Young For Eternity has the rock devil and the little angel rolled into one about it. The combined personalities which blends the bands youthful appearance and spirit together to create a full blown yet sleeping baby wrapped into a woolly blanket effect. Buy the album and see for yourself. Personally it's a cracker and will play this all summer long!
