The album of all albums is here. The waiting is over! The anticipation has gone, the eagle has landed!!!! Coldplay's highly awaited third album X&Y has lI'ved up to the hype which has surrounded the release of the album! Chris Martin and Co had delayed the release of the album due to having a crisis over the songs which had been written and were pencilled in to appear on the record. At the eleventh hour the album was completely scratched and work began from the start again. Martin who is known for his self doubting qualities was unsure of the songs originally set to make the album, but true to form he and the rest of the band re-worked the entire project and released a classic!!! NME stated that this album can not fail, Q Music announced the album to be a masterpiece! You would be hard pushed to disagree! HMV had said that first day sales had surpassed 100,000 copies, making the album go GOLD on the day of release. This figure, though, does not include the thousands of copies downloaded on Apple's iTunes website. Sales are expected to exceed 400,000 copies making the album, potentially, go PLATINUM!.
Chris Martin explained 18 months ago that Coldplay would set out to re-invent the wheel. Well that's exactly what they've done! This is an extraordinary album full of warmth, emotion and heart. The album opens up with SQUARE ONE. A potential replacement for Politik which usually opens up the set of a Coldplay gig. The band will be hard press to choose between the two as to which one gets the priviledge of opening the show! Johnny B's guitar kicks in after a few moments to gI've the song a firm platform. Sir Chris starts to sing about being in control, wanting to know, knowing which way (life) is taking you. The songs drI'ves forward with the accuracy of Johnny B on Guitars and Will C on Drums. WHAT IF is a song about forseeing the future, trying to predict what may happen. "What if you decide that you don't want me by your side/ What if you deicde that you don't want me in your life". One thing that grabs you about the song is Guy B's bass, it has a very important support role behind guitar and drum, giving the song depth. The album is full of twists such as the Kraftwerk drI'ven TALK, where once again Johnny B's guitar riffs push the song forward. The similarities of Computer Work and Talk are there to examine and study. Current single SPEED OF SOUND, leaps, dances and jumps its way into your psyche. The eurphoric piano intro at the beginning is very similar to that of CLOCKS. Next single to be release is FIX YOU. This has been tipped as the new SCIENTIST. "Tears stream down your face/ when you lose something/ you can't replace."..."Lights will guide you home/ and ignite your bones/ and I will try to fix you!." This will surely be another crowd favourite at gigs!
Songs such as THE HARDEST PART and SWALLOWED BY THE SEA see Coldplay return to familar roots. THE HARDEST PART is a song about letting go of something or more likely someone who has been a major part of a person life. " And it's the Hardest Part letting go, not taking part". Losing that someone who has made a difference in your life and begin able to suddenly let them go. Knowing that you've gone so far and there's nothing more that you can do, you've tried your hardest but it's time to move on. SWALLOWED BY THE SEA is an intriguing song, it sees Sir Chris addressing one of the main issues that he and the band have certain views upon. The band as a whole are opposed to first world farmers gaining huge amounts of profit from Third world farmers, when they have worked and harvested produce from their land to be sent away to only receI've a pittance in return. Deforestation is another issue with which Sir Chris is concerned with. This is reflected in the opening lines of the track. " You cut me down a tree and brought it back to me, and that what's made me see where I was going wrong". What is the best way to tackle a problem like this. He then states that writing a song can highlight the issue and that way the issue can be addressed.
Hidden Track TIL KINGDOM COME was originally written for Johnny Cash to perform. Unfortunately Mr Cash passed away before the band could get in contact with him. This song starts with Johnny B on acoustic guitar, with Sir Chris on piano. This song is a plea from a person who is looking for, or knows someone who, is the one for them. A heart felt song which gets under your skin and pulls at your conscious, alerting your senses to find that special someone. "Hold my hand, inside your hands, i need someone who understand, i need someone someone who hears, for you I've waited all these years/ For you id wait til kindgom come, til my days, my days are done, and say you'll come and set me free, just say you'll wait , you'll wait for me." A Coldplay song which can definitely fit into any gig list , maybe on the par with God Put A Smile On My Face. Though with this song in mind for the Great Johnny Cash, it certainly leaps clear above the norm.
This Coldplay albums has hit a height no other album by any other band of the modern era has every reached. This record has gone straight off the rock chart, and into the unknown. A Rush Of Blood sold 11 million copies, this album will beat that score handsomely and send Coldplay into a new dimension! A album of this class, rarely occurs, so if you haven't bought it by now WHY THE FUCK NOT!!! Coldplay have re-written the record books and it's time to show the world (once again) how fucking good Coldplay are!!!
