The ingredients for this particular dish are as follows :-
Here straight off the plane from Heathrow we have these Aussie rockers debut album. And hold on to your hats because these boys rock f***ing hard!!!! Having heard an as yet un-released single from said band on a compilation album I was intrigued to find out more about them. The song in question was "White Unicorn". This wholly motherf***ing rock rebellion of a song clocks in, at just under five minutes. And hearing is believing! The guitar riffs in this beauty are to die for and the drum rolls and one long drum solo towards the end of the song are awesome!
The whole album is drenched in 1970's rock renaissance - from Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Motörhead: you name it, this thirteen song record is wrapped in a cloak of rock glory! Even the great Lemmy wouldn't be out of place on this album. The spirit of these bands have inspired these Aussie Rockers to create this marvel. And as is common knowledge Australia is known for its present day rock muscle, Jet, The Vines, 28 Days Later to name but a few have entered out airwaves and left us reeling for more. Add the two elements together and you've got Wolfmother!
From opening number Dimension you get the sense of rock freedom, long-haired rockers head banging hard. This particular number draws on the legend of guitar maestro and 60's Rock hero Jimi Hendrix " Purple Hazes is in the sky..." You can sense that if you put your imagination hat on that this gem could be performed by Mr H himself, the guitar riffs has so many dymanics that you get that feeling that you are spell bound to run out into a country field and dance like a dandy with your hair flying all over the place, drinking a firkin of watney's (rancid stuff my dad has told me! but he drank a lot of it in his youth. That would explain the ridiculous hair do he had!)
Like every great rock band you have to show a certain genteel side to the raw masculine side. And here we find Where Eagles Have Been a slow acoustic guitar number, which eases into a hard(est) rockier number, where if it were written and performed in the 1970's would be a sure fire pscyhedlic, drug induced, beer fuelled riot!
Apple Tree is written and performed in the wholly bluesque vein of the white stripes. This track oozes the jazz rock of Jack and Meg White, and had you not known this was a wolfmother number, you could easily mistakes this for Jack Whites howling bluesy voice, rocking out with Meg in support, banging on them there drums!
All in all this album has the attitude, the drive, the personality to become one of the best rock album of 2006. Wolfmother has gathered a collectively massive array of powerful, guitar crunching, head banging gems that you simply have to bow to. The fire and brime stone of the intergalactic masters who strives threw outer space firing off photon torpedo which are set to impact upon the nearest star base, to show off its might and its ultimate strength. Woflmother deserves your attention and respect. I've succumb to their greatest you will do the same!!!!
