With the inaugural NME New Music Tour 2006 winding down, the country can stop for a much needed break. The fast and furious wave of " the next best thing " has come and we the music loving public are still, and mostly importantly, swimming or floating, whatever takes your fancy, around in the aftermath of the most irresistible force de nature of new bands. Boy Kill Boy, Howling Bells, The Long Blondes, Forward Russia and The Automatic have burst onto the scene and made one hell of an impact!
From the back of an old empty and deserted room I found a copy of BKB's debut album - Civilian. Though somehow I ended up paying £8.99 for it?!? But there you go. (I don't get it either!) This little gem had me purring like a big fat Cheshire tabby cat whose just devoured three tins of Turkey flavored Whiskas, all washed down with a pint of whole milk and a drop of cream for good measure! The moment I heard BKB's Back Again, I thought to myself "Hello! What have we here! Something special is entering my airwaves and making my head spin like Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer running around in a circle saying "You wouldn't let it lye" "But I would have let it lye!!!"
From the off, Back Again comes blasting out of the traps and leaves a wall of dust and dirt flying all over the place. Cough cough splutter splutter! A new demon is here to stay and it's ready to rumble! Dancing to a similar tune, although an altogether different set of rules is Suzie. (Ah sweet Suzie only 17 when I met her and 18 when we first kissed. When she was 19 things got serious and at 20 we were together, at 21 we spent are first night together and we knew there and then we were made for each other. Ahhhhhhh what a sweet story shame its not true!!! away with this mushy stuff its back to business!)
The great thing with this album is that the same special ingredients have been used for each song. So the minute one song ends you know that the magical blend of coffee beans and a sprinkle of magical powder...... what are you on about you MADMAN!!!! Sorry I just get so carried away sometimes. Right here goes, song after song the magic BKB produce wraps itself around you, letting you feel its presence and awe. One track which for me has the most oomph to it has to be Killer I could play this number over and over again! Just the title itself lends a helping hand to offer an insight into the magic of the realm there you go again CRAZY MAD FOOL!!!!
This album has everything and more, eleven track which you could play over and over again (with or without the aid of the REPEAT button on your CD player) because the more times you play the songs the more connectivity you get from it. The quirkyness and the subtley of each dancefloor filler, it flaunts itself and you can only be compelled to say "these guys are good, seriously good"! Please please please can we have more of the same.
WARNING :- If your aged 16 and are female BEWARE OF THIS BAND!!!!!!!
