Lets start at the beginning. It's generally the best place to start when undertaking any task and it usually gets proceedings off on the right foot. At the beginning, no that's wrong, in the beginning there is the starting point. Everyone knows that everything has to start from somewhere. Unless your lucky enough to get a head start, with say a cheat code, if a cheat code was required. But often, more often than not, you have to start at a certain point and with luck and ambition progress from there. Hopefully in the direction that progress normally takes you Ie UP! With any project its always a worth while idea to gain a good understanding, an understanding of the subject that your working on. From here you can explore ideas and thoughts, views and opinions. Construct and build the frame work from which will sprout the glorious end product. The crowning glory, if you like!
Little Man Tate took on this very work ethic and produce an amazing debut album in the form of About What You Know. Throughout 2006, the band went on a journey, searching high and low to piece together the jigsaw puzzle that magically and majestically turned into their debut record.
As the album grew, the songs become bolder and more audacious. In my mind, with all albums, there is usually one song that stands head and shoulders above all others. Here on About What You Know - HOUSE PARTY AT BOOTHY's is that very song. If you love house parties and all that is associated with them, you'll love this track. Indeed, the track has that killer tune, which will have itself buzzing around your mind for all eternity. Like The Kaiser's I Predict A Riot and The Automatic's Monster, LTM's House Party At Boothy's will be one of, if not the best track of the year! The band add to this gem by, not so much building around, but placing more solid musical frame works around and making the whole structure of the album whole. Sexy In Latin is another great to look out for, strong lyrics, good catchy tune - all the right ingredients in the right place. Current single This Must Be Love looks odds on to place its self high up the charts and it can justifiable do so. Other numbers such as Little Big Man, Court Report and This Girl Isn't My Girlfriend, re-enforce the overwhelming opinion that this band are to be one of the highlights of 2007. The reason being, for me it was just a case of sitting down putting on the cd - listening and understanding. Simple as that.
Little Man Tate will be, in my opinion, a resounding success this year. Hopefully a couple of festival appearances in the summer will be added to the expanding diary for the forthcoming months head (I'll keep checking the Reading Festival website to see if there playing this year!) The album is one to own, and you will be forced to play it, just to hear, if anything, the killer tunes from House Party @ Boothys or the cries of Who Invented These Lists? Buy it, play it, get the t-shirt and become enthralled by it all!
